FAQ

What is the Sovereign set good for in KIBORG?
Geisteskrankenchan, a KIBORG team member replying in Steam discussions, says Sovereign is especially great for boosting other implants effects, and that implants are balanced to be fun as mixes or complete sets.
Do Sovereign abilities count as ranged attacks?
Yes, according to KIBORG team member Geisteskrankenchan, who said they should count as ranged attacks. A 1 May 2025 patch also fixed Sovereign features being wrongly disabled by the Brawler mutation, which that note describes as disabling ranged weapons.
Do you need the Descent DLC for Sovereign?
No. KIBORG team member Geisteskrankenchan answered a June 2026 question about two sets by saying all the existing sets are available in the base game. We found no source describing how Sovereign itself is unlocked.
How has Sovereign changed in patches?
On 30 May 2025 the effects of its minor and major synergies were swapped. The 14 June 2025 "Sovereign Update" made seven Golden augmentations easier to unlock and tuned four numbers. On 11 May 2026 set augmentations that needed 4 pieces started needing 3.
What do players mix with Sovereign?
In a January 2026 Reddit thread, Sovereign legs appear in the thread author electric hybrid and in two of three layouts from one commenter, who also calls Sovereign legs one of the two most overpowered starting pieces. Those are player opinions.

Sovereign is the implant set the studio describes as an amplifier: less about replacing every slot with its own passives, more about making your other implants hit harder. Shared player layouts mostly use it that way, often as legs or chest. Public sources do not give a per-slot table, so this page covers role, rules and patch history instead.

What does the studio say about Sovereign?

KIBORG team member Geisteskrankenchan (his Steam profile says he works on the game as a 3D animator) answered in a Steam thread in November 2025:

  1. Implants are balanced to be equally fun as a mix or as a complete set, and Sovereign is especially great for boosting other implants’ effects.
  2. Every set offers a bonus when you equip each part of it.
  3. Asked whether a full-Sovereign “iron man” build could use its active abilities, he said of course, and that its abilities should count as ranged attacks too.

In June 2026 he also said that all existing sets are available in the base game, so the Descent DLC is not required. Unlock steps for Sovereign were not documented in what we read. Compare set names on the implants list.

How has Sovereign changed in patches?

Date Change from Steam patch notes
1 May 2025 Fixed Sovereign features being incorrectly disabled with the Brawler mutation, which the note describes as disabling ranged weapons
30 May 2025 Effects of the minor and major synergies swapped (the note gives no new text)
14 June 2025 Sovereign Update: easier unlock conditions for Golden Shield, Golden Chain, Golden Chalice, Golden Gun, Golden Scabbard, Golden Standard and Golden Rod. Spoils of War token bonus 20% to 15%, Golden Chalice status accumulation 10% to 5%, Golden Shield damage resistance cap 75% to 85%, Eternal Regalia activation 30s to 20s
11 May 2026 All augmentations that needed 4 implants from a set now need 3

Treat the June 2025 numbers as history. Later patches may have changed them again, and an old guide that quotes the pre-swap synergy text is out of date.

What layouts do players share?

All of this is from the January 2026 “Favorite builds” Reddit thread and is player opinion.

Layout Pieces
Thread author’s electric hybrid Guardian head and heart; Thundergod spine, torso, arms; Sovereign legs
Commenter, layout 1 Thundergod head and spine; Commando chest and heart; Gunslinger arms; Sovereign legs
Commenter, layout 2 Guardian head and left arm; Sovereign chest; Source right arm; Commando spine, heart, legs
Commenter, layout 3 Remedium head, right arm, spine, heart; Thundergod chest and left arm; Sovereign legs

The same commenter calls the Commando chest and the Sovereign legs the two most overpowered starting pieces to build around. That is subjective and was not tested by this wiki. More layouts are in the best builds guide.

What are Sovereign’s strengths and gaps?

  • Strength: it is the set the studio names for boosting other implants, so it fits hybrids.
  • Strength: its abilities should count as ranged attacks, which matters if you roll a ranged-ban mutator. See the mutators guide.
  • Gap: there is no public per-slot table to min-max.
  • Gap: the unlock path is not documented in our sources.
  • Gap: “most overpowered legs” is opinion, not data.

Sovereign or another set?

Pick an identity first, such as Thundergod energy, Remedium statuses or Guardian shields, then add Sovereign where your layout wants an amplifier. For status play see the Remedium build, and for electric play the Thundergod build.
